Situation: Your child has brought home an untouched lunch box and complains that "all the other kids get cordial and chips in their box or gourmet foods"
Challenge: You want your child to eat the food that you decide upon - healthy foods that will nourish mind and body.
What to do?
1. Don't believe the child's claims and exagerations. Phone other parents and ask the teacher about what they see. But better still, head off this claim with the help of child-friendly gadgets and technology. On day one of school, casually suggest that they take photos of friends and other kids in the class with lunch boxes open for the entire week to create a colourful montage (of the lunches only - not the children's faces) to show on FaceBook or send to you if their mobile phone can do that. Teachers may get in on the act as well.
